Teacher’s Day we are well aware with this event, as we all know, in India we celebrate Teachers day on 5 September birth anniversary of very a scholar & pionior of our education Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan

Oct 5^th 1994 we started celebrating Teacher’s day internationally & in India from the year 1962.

 

We have many a times heard about Gurupurnima But do we acutally know why do we celebrate Gurupurnima, why it is so important why do we celebrate this day?

As I remember one the famous quote or doha of Saint Kabir Das which I would like to share

गुरू गोविन्द दोऊ खड़े, काके लागूं पांय। बलिहारी गुरू अपने गोविन्द दियो बताय।।

कबीर इस दोहे मे कहते हैं कि अगर हमारे सामने गुरु और भगवान दोनों एक साथ खड़े हों तो आप किसके चरण स्पर्श करेंगे ? इस पर वो कहते हैं गुरु ही हमारा आदर, सम्मान और स्नेह के हैं क्योंकि उनके ज्ञान से ही हमें  भगवान से मिलने का रास्ता मिलता है ।  इसलिए गुरु कि महिमा भगवान से भी ऊपर है और हमें  गुरु का  चरण स्पर्श करना  चाहिए ।

 

The celebration of Guru Purnima is commended with veneration and energy on the full moon day of Ashadh Shukla Paksha. This celebration is committed to the significance of Guru throughout everyday life.

In India, we celebrate Guru Poornima as a way to express our gratitude and love to our Guru (teacher) who guides us through the right path of knowledge. It is the most essential duty of a disciple to thank his teacher, preceptor, spiritual parent for opening his eyes from darkness to the world of light and knowledge. Without gratitude and appreciation to one's parents, teachers, elders, No one can academically or spiritually progress in the path of knowledge and life.

 

Guru has great importance in our life. 'Gu' means darkness (ignorance) and 'Ru' means light (knowledge). The Guru leads us from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge. Future life is created by the Guru only.

 

India being the motherland of our religion & culture around 3rd millennium BCE a great saint named Vyasa has taken birth. Guru Purnima is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Veda Vyasa. Veda Vyasa is the writer of the major Hindu texts including Mahabharata, Puranas, and the Vedas.

 

We Hindus dedicate Guru Purnima to Maharshi Veda Vyasa, the sage who is believed to be responsible for writing and editing the sacred Hindu text, and compiler of the four Vedas and writing the 18 Puranas, Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavatam-all of which form the very foundation of the Hindu religion. Due to this his named was prefixed with veda & came to known as Vedavyas. The creator, complier of all Veda & Purans and written by Lord Ganesha. Who thaught every one about the relation & importance of a teacher & disciple.

 

The day of Guru Purnima is considered auspicious for those who are willing to give a start to a spiritual learning of any kind.

Therefore Guru Purnima is also known as Vyas Purnima.

As now a days we have adapted western culture but we should not forget our motherland because it is the only land where we can see the roots of our education who has developed our nation and gave us great assets in every filed.
